I know a thing or two about checking the weather over and over, from the months leading up to the wedding day, to the daily forecast and then hour by hour.

The plan was to get some photos by the Golden Gate Bridge at the Presidio, but it looked like it would rain during the time we planned for it. Laura emailed me a few days prior to the wedding, looking for words of encouragement and wondering about potential back up plans.

We’d have backup plans for portraits and family photos, and at the same time be willing to play it by ear and stay flexible. I shared my story about my own wedding, the constant checking of the forecast of upstate NY, and wonderful moments of people dancing in the rain became one of the defining memories of the night.

“I’m still willing to join for Tunnel Top exploration. We can bring umbrellas, and my cameras are weather resistant,” I told her.

On the day of, right about the time we had for outdoor portraits, we had almost exactly 10 minutes of getting into the car, walking quickly over, me clutching the umbrella under my left arm while shooting, and handing back the umbrella once the rain started coming down harder. Phillip’s dad picked us up from where he dropped us off just 7 minutes earlier.

As we huddled back into the car we all laughed from both sighs of relief and from an appreciation for what the day gave us as a little gift. It continued to rain throughout the evening. <3
